Robert Pattinson is starring in a forthcoming sci-fi film that looks like Passengers, but better. Also starring Juliette Binoche, Mia Goth, and André Benjamin, High Life is about a group of criminals on a supposed mission to a black hole. It seems the real mission, however – led by Binoche’s character – is more of a reproductive experiment. Directed by Claire Denis, it will be the French Chocolat director’s first English-language film. High Life premiered during the Toronto International Film Festival, and it will officially hit theaters on Nov. 7. Watch the unsettling trailer above.

If you’ve seen Crazy Rich Asians or Ocean’s 8, you’ll know that Awkwafina is hilarious. When she opened Saturday Night Live in her first time hosting the show, the 29-year-old actress delivered a touching monologue that paid tribute to Lucy Liu, the first-ever Asian woman to host the show. On Oct. 6, Awkwafina became the second.
See, Awkwafina waited outside of Saturday Night Live when she was 11 years old to try and get into the taping of the episode Lucy hosted in 2000. “I remember how important that episode was for me and totally changed what I thought was possible for an Asian-American woman,” Awkwafina said. Adding, “Thank you, Lucy, for opening the door. I wasn’t able to make it in the building back then, but 18 years later, I am hosting the show.”
Awkwafina’s heartwarming monologue was of course not without laughs. In her first line, she said, “I was gonna come out dressed like a water bottle, but apparently someone did that last week.” She also managed to slip in a Donald Trump impression in joking about her dad’s accent.

Despite her many accolades and accomplishments, Brie Larson isn’t forgetting where she came from. Though the 29-year-old actress has starred in movies such as Room and Trainwreck and will soon lead the massive blockbuster Captain Marvel, Larson – like many celebrities – got her start in a Disney Channel Original Movie.
“This is your friendly reminder that this happened,” Larson wrote on Instagram with a still from the 2003 classic Right on Track, based on the real-life story of drag-racing sisters Courtney and Erica Enders. The inspiring teen flick also starred Beverley Mitchell, who was appearing in 7th Heaven at the time.
Larson is one of many celebrities who appeared in a Disney Channel Original Movie, including America Ferrera, Kaley Cuoco, Mischa Barton, and many more. As it turns out, those corny movies weren’t only our Friday-night obsessions – they were also some pretty amazing career-starters!
In a sentence we never thought we’d type: here’s a first look at Christian Bale as Dick Cheney. The 44-year-old known method actor transformed into the 77-year-old former vice president for the upcoming dramedy Vice also starring Sam Rockwell as George W. Bush, Amy Adams as Lynne Cheney, and Steve Carell as Donald Rumsfeld. By the look of the trailer, the movie will explore his infamous power maneuvers, personal life, and at times underhanded relationship with the then-president. Vice is slated for a Christmas Day release later this year. Watch the wild trailer above.
West Side Story has found its leading man. Ansel Elgort has reportedly been cast to portray Tony in Steven Spielberg‘s forthcoming adaptation of the classic musical set in Manhattan. The 24-year-old actor previously receive critical acclaim for his role in 2017’s Baby Driver, but this will be Elgort’s biggest role to date by far.
Tony and Maria are the protagonists of the tragic love story modeled after Romeo and Juliet. Tony is a former member of American gang the Jets, which rivals Puerto Rican gang the Sharks. Maria’s older brother is the leader of the Sharks, and thus enters the story’s central dilemma. Tony was first portrayed by Larry Kert in the original 1957 musical and later by Richard Beymer in the 1961 film.
The remake’s Maria has yet to be announced. Though Natalie Wood is famous for her impassioned portrayal of the star-crossed lover in the screen adaptation, the casting choice has since been met with criticism given that Wood was not Puerto Rican. With the modern remake in the works, the hope is that the same mistake is not repeated.
The new golden boy of cinema might be off the market. After working together on Netflix’s The King, Timothée Chalamet and Lily-Rose Depp appear to be dating. The two were recently spotted together several times in New York City, at a coffee shop and simply strolling together in the East Village.
According to Us Weekly, Timothée and Lily looked like “a new young couple in love” during their recent outings. “They were walking down the street, and he stopped her and pulled her close,” a source told the publication. “They started making out for a while, for over a minute.” And that sound you hear is the sound of hearts shattering everywhere.
The 22-year-old Call Me by Your Name actor previously dated Lourdes Leon, Madonna‘s daughter, in 2013 while the two attended the esteemed LaGuardia High School for the arts. Meanwhile, the 19-year-old model and daughter of Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis was dating model Ash Stymest up until April 2018.
In addition to their forthcoming film, Timothée and Lily share a similar background. Lily was born in Paris, while Timothée’s father is French, and he is fluent in the language.
With a forthcoming memoir, Gisele Bündchen is reflecting on her career, her past romances, and some tough times. In an interview with People to promote Lessons: My Path to a Meaningful Life, the 38-year-old model opened up about suffering from panic attacks following a turbulent flight in 2003. A period of anxiety and suicidal thoughts followed before Gisele decided to overhaul her lifestyle – including her relationship.
“I had been smoking cigarettes, drinking a bottle of wine and three mocha Frappucinos every day, and I gave up everything in one day,” Gisele said. “I thought, if this stuff is in any way the cause of this pain in my life, it’s gotta go.” At the time, Gisele was in a relationship with Leonardo DiCaprio, whom she had been dating on and off since 1999. Gisele said she began to feel “alone” as her life was undergoing this transformation, and the two broke up in 2005.
Of the relationship and subsequent breakup, Gisele said she has little regret. “Everyone who crosses our path is a teacher, they come into our lives to show us something about ourselves,” she said. “And I think that’s what he was. What is good versus bad? I honor him for what he was.”
Glenn Weiss knows how to keep things interesting. That’s probably why he won the Emmy Award for his directorial work at the 2018 Oscars. During his acceptance speech, Glenn stole the show by proposing to his girlfriend right there on live television. Mid-speech, Glenn said, “Jan, you are the sunshine of my life, and Mom was right: don’t ever let go of your sunshine. You wonder why I don’t like to call you my girlfriend? Because I want to call you my wife.” The memorable moment instantly spurred a collective freak-out from viewers in the audience (especially Saturday Night Live cast member Leslie Jones) and at home.
Allow Alex Borstein to show you how it’s done. At the 2018 Emmys, the 47-year-old Marvelous Mrs. Maisel actress accepted the award for best supporting actress in a comedy series. Before approaching the podium, however, Alex slipped into something a little more comfortable by removing her shawl and spiritedly shimmying down the aisle. Relive the incredible award show moment ahead.
Viola Davis doesn’t have many regrets. When asked if she has regretted turning down any roles, the 53-year-old Oscar winner told The New York Times she might regret it “maybe a minute,” and then she simply lets it go. In a recent interview with the publication at the Toronto International Film Festival, however, Davis did say she has grown to regret her role in The Help.
In the 2011 drama – which received four Oscar nominations, including a best actress nomination for Davis – the actress portrayed Aibileen Clark, a maid for a well-to-do family in the South. Davis explained her gripe with the film was that it largely focused on the perspective of aspiring writer Eugenia “Skeeter” Phelan, portrayed by Emma Stone. “I just felt that at the end of the day that it wasn’t the voices of the maids that were heard,” Davis said.
“I know Aibileen. I know Minny. They’re my grandma. They’re my mom.”
Elaborating, Davis said she wished the film dove deeper into the perspectives of its actual subjects. “I know Aibileen. I know Minny. They’re my grandma. They’re my mom,” she said. “And I know that if you do a movie where the whole premise is, I want to know what it feels like to work for white people and to bring up children in 1963, I want to hear how you really feel about it. I never heard that in the course of the movie.”
Then again, Davis said the movie bonded her with actresses that would go on to be her friends and go on to work with again, including Octavia Spencer and Jessica Chastain. “The friendships that I formed are ones that I’m going to have for the rest of my life,” she said. “I had a great experience with these other actresses, who are extraordinary human beings.”
At the 2018 Creative Arts Emmy Awards on Sept. 9, John Legend officially achieved EGOT status, and he made history while doing it. The 39-year-old singer became the first black male to accomplish EGOT glory when he won an award for Outstanding Variety Special for Jesus Christ Superstar Live, which he co-produced. Legend’s starring role in the televised musical also earned him a nomination for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series or Movie, which will be announced at the Primetime Emmy Awards on Sept. 17.
Legend’s wife, Chrissy Teigen, was in attendance and cheering him on. Prior to his big win,
Teigen tweeted, “If Jesus Christ Superstar wins, john will have his EGOT. And I will make an even uglier cry face,” alluding to her now-famous expression at the 2015 Golden Globes. In an Instagram post following the award show, Legend said he was “so amazed to be in such rarefied air.”
Throughout his prolific career, Legend has received 10 Grammys, a Tony for co-producing Jitney in 2017, and an Oscar for his song “Glory,” which appeared in 2014’s Selma. He is the first black man to join the exclusive club, and also one of the youngest to do so. Frozen and Coco songwriter Robert Lopez previously became the youngest ever EGOT winner in 2014 when he too was 39, the same age as Legend.
Ah, to be young and in love. On Aug. 20, Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson attended the 2018 MTV Video Music Awards for their first red carpet appearance as an engaged couple. While the two stopped to take several sweet pictures, Ariana and Pete were photographed fleeing from the red carpet soon after – interrupting a shot of The Hills cast reunion in the process!
Why did Ariana and Pete leave in such a hurry? While the 25-year-old pop star is performing her latest single “God Is a Woman,” she wasn’t set to open the award show. Once inside, Ariana and Pete slowed down their mad dash to take more pictures while looking lovingly into each other’s eyes. And just like that, all was right again.
By the looks of it, Gina Rodriguez had a pretty great birthday this year. The Jane the Virgin star celebrated her 34th birthday on July 30 in Tulum, Mexico, with several friends and her boyfriend of almost two years, Joe LoCicero. Oh, and she may have also gotten engaged.
On the morning of her birthday, Gina shared a shot of herself seated by the beach wearing a massive diamond ring on her left hand. In her caption, Gina quoted Frida Kahlo and wrote, “They thought I was a Surrealist, but I wasn’t. I never painted dreams. I painted my own reality.” On Instagram Stories, she shared similar pictures from the same spot, as well as one with Joe that feels very newly engaged-esque. US Weekly later reported the couple is in fact engaged.
This isn’t the first time the star has sparked engagement rumors, however. At the Oscars earlier this year, Gina wore a diamond band on her ring finger while walking the red carpet with Joe. Though this recent news seems like the real deal, Gina and Joe have yet to officially confirm the news apart from sharing the sweet vacation shots. If this does turn out to be true, though, then she had a damn good birthday indeed.

Dennis Quaid is remembering his experience filming The Parent Trap exactly two decades after the film’s release. While promoting his portrayal of Ronald Reagan in an upcoming biopic, the 64-year-old actor opened up about working with Lindsay Lohan and the late Natasha Richardson in an interview on Megyn Kelly Today.
When asked to describe his former female castmates, Dennis became emotional at the mention of Natasha, who passed away from a head injury she sustained while skiing in 2009. In addition to praising the actress’s “great family relationship” with her two sons and husband Liam Neeson, Dennis said it was a joy to work with her in the 1998 romantic comedy. “She was just a joy to work with. She was, like, a worker,” he said. “No ego – none of that crap actors pull.”
Dennis also reminisced about working with Lindsay, who was only 11 when filming began on The Parent Trap. After urging a “comeback” from the actress, Dennis said, “She was one of the most talented people I ever met.” Adding, “When we were doing the film, she had me believing that there was two kids, that there were twins, for real.”
In the remainder of his interview, which aired on July 23, Dennis addresses his struggle with cocaine addiction, as well as his high-profile 10-year marriage to Meg Ryan.
Victoria Beckham caught her 13-year-old son, Cruz, singing about his mama. Well, technically not his mama – Justin Bieber’s mama. The 44-year-old fashion designer and mom of four recently shared candid videos of Cruz covering Justin’s 2015 song “Love Yourself.”
Cruz kills his acoustic cover, too. In fact, he sounds a whole lot like Justin when he made his music debut as a teenager back in 2009. In her captions, Victoria said Cruz was doing his morning vocal warm-up, adding, “This is waking up in the Beckham house!” Watch the heartwarming videos and then check out pictures from the family’s recent beach vacation.
Brokeback Mountain catapulted the already-thriving acting careers of Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal when it was released in 2005. The film was met with success during the subsequent award season, and the two actors each earned Oscar nominations for their respective portrayals of Ennis Del Mar and Jack Twist. Though it’s now difficult to imagine anyone else in those roles, Gus Van Sant recently named the four other actors approached for the film.
While promoting Don’t Worry, He Won’t Get Far on Foot, Van Sant said he was considered to direct Brokeback Mountain before the gig went to Ang Lee. The director said it “wasn’t working out,” however, because actors kept turning it down, namely Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, and Ryan Phillippe. “Nobody wanted to do it,” Van Sant told IndieWire. “I was working on it, and I felt like we needed a really strong cast, like a famous cast.”
When asked to confirm Van Sant’s list, Brokeback Mountain producer and screenwriter Diana Ossana said, “Yes, all those young gentlemen (at the time) turned down the project, for various reasons.”
In retrospect, Van Sant thinks he shouldn’t have been so concerned about casting such high-profile actors. “What I could have done, and what I probably should have done, was cast more unknowns, not worried about who were the lead actors,” he said. “I was not ready. I’m not sure why. There was just sort of a hiccup on my part. There was something off with myself, I guess, whatever was going on.”
In addition to that surprising revelation, Van Sant also said he was offered to direct 2017’s Call Me by Your Name, which was directed by Luca Guadagnino. “I don’t think it would have panned out the way it did if I had directed it. I think it was great,” he said.
Zombieland is coming back from the dead. The Hollywood Reporter has learned the 2009 cult-favorite post-apocalyptic comedy is officially getting a sequel starring the complete original cast: Emma Stone, Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, and Abigail Breslin.
“This is one of those projects that fans have wanted to see happen for a long time – and no one wanted to see it happen more than Emma, Woody, Jesse, and Abigail,” Columbia Pictures President Sanford Panitch told The Hollywood Reporter. “These are some of the most in-demand actors, and I think they are making this movie because they love these characters.”
Production is set to begin January 2019, with the intention of the movie being released October 2019 – exactly 10 years after the original. Learn more details about the long-awaited sequel ahead.
Drew Barrymore spent her day off with Cameron Diaz, and that’s exactly how we like to spend our Summer Fridays, too. The 43-year-old actress recently shared a stunning, no-makeup selfie with her longtime friend and former Charlie’s Angels costar. In her hashtag-filled caption, Drew sweetly described Cameron as an “old-school sister,” and as for their impeccable complexions, Drew emphatically wrote, “#SUNSCREENALWAYS.”
The two actresses have known each other since they were teenagers and first met at the coffee shop Drew worked at when she was 14. After working on the Charlie’s Angels franchise, however, the two became great friends, and Cameron even went on to be a bridesmaid at Drew’s wedding to Will Kopelman in 2012. After all this time, it’s lovely to see this female friendship still going strong.
After two emotional seasons, Queer Eye has become known for making both its viewers and hosts involuntarily sob. While different moments resonate with each member of the so-called Fab Five, Antoni Porowski recently shared the season two episode that definitively guttered them all. (Yes, it’s the episode about Tammye.)
In the season two premiere, “God Bless Gay,” the Netflix show’s Bobby Berk, Karamo Brown, Tan France, Jonathan Van Ness, and Porowski help Tammye renovate her local community center in preparation for an annual homecoming event. Along the way, they counsel and make over the mother and cancer survivor in the heartwarming way they often do, and in return, Tammye radiates positivity and imparts her life-changing wisdom. It was such a special episode in fact, that it was actually filmed as the season finale.
“Tammye’s episode was actually filmed as the last one. Originally, it was going to be the last episode to air of the season,” Porowski told POPSUGAR in a recent interview. “It was such a fricking emotional rollercoaster – as you can see from my snot-crying throughout the episode.” After realizing the impact of the episode, it was decided that it would instead open the season. “It was the one episode where we weren’t sitting down and watching her accomplish her mission. It was more of a ‘she’s teaching us’ episode.”
Though the cast was “relieved and excited” to wrap the season and get back to their respective families, the emotional experience of filming Tammye’s episode made them want to share one last meal together . . . at McDonald’s. “We stopped by McDonald’s and we all fully binged,” Porowski said. “I had three cheeseburgers, a Big Mac, a six-piece chicken tender, a McFlurry, the Oreo one, and – oh, yeah – and I had a chicken Snack Wrap, the one that has mayo and iceberg lettuce.”
After their McDonald’s feast, Porowski said the Fab Five drove around listening to Rihanna and Britney Spears. “It was amazing,” he said. “Yes, we were brought together through artificial circumstances, chemistry-testing, and Netflix, but we’re all friends for life and we all consider ourselves brothers.”
Amy Adams and Chris Messina have a palpable chemistry in the debut episode of Sharp Objects alone. It’s almost as if they’ve done this whole acting thing together before. Well, as it turns out, they have! Nearly a decade ago, the actors costarred in 2009’s Julie & Julia, the heartwarming Nora Ephron-led movie about renowned chef Julia Child and author Julie Powell. In the movie, Messina portrays Julie’s husband, Eric Powell. In the gritty HBO miniseries, Adams portrays Camille Preaker, while Messina portrays Detective Richard Willis.
After becoming friends following Julie & Julia, Messina said he was eager to work with Adams again. “I wanted another shot with Amy when I wasn’t just eating her food and telling her how delicious it was,” the actor told the New York Post. In fact, Adams advocated for Messina to be cast in Sharp Objects. Messina said, “I think she wanted someone around her – and there are several of us – that she trusted and felt comfortable with as she had to go to these extreme dark places.” To learn more about the series and the novel it’s based on, read our spoiler-free summary.
