Caliroots Joins Chinatown Market for Glow-in-the-Dark Smiley Gear

By | December 14, 2018

After joining forces for the opening of Caliroots’ new store, Chinatown Market once again links up with the Stockholm-based retailer for exclusive goods. A black-on-white tee and contrasting basketball both feature the LA brand’s preferred smiley face imagery, complemented by co-branding. The Chinatown Market logo is flipped to “STHLM MARKET” this time around, however, as a nod to Caliroots‘ Swedish roots. To ensure that the bold graphics are even more unmissable, the white accents glow in the dark, adding a moody pop to the smiley face detailing.

The exclusive goods hit Caliroots’ website on December 17.

For more glow-in-the-dark goods, peep the upcoming Nike Zoom Rookie “Glow in the Dark.”

eL Seed To Bring Intricate Calligraphy Works To First UK Solo Exhibit

By | December 14, 2018

French-Tunisian street artist eL Seed is long-lauded for his unique spin on traditional Arabic calligraphy that is observed on paintings, murals, and site-specific installations. Injecting a wildstyle aesthetic to the compositions, the artist exaggerates the winding lines of his script to decrease legibility and heighten mystery of the visual as a whole. Now, the artist is set to launch his first-ever show in the United Kingdom. Entitled “Tabula Rasa,” the forthcoming presentation will feature a diverse range of acrylic on canvas paintings at London’s Lazinc Gallery.

“eL Seed’s art reacts to the reality of mankind and the world we live, building bridges between people, cultures, and generations,” said the gallery in a statement.  The show will officially run through January 25, 2019 until March 9, 2019. Head over to Lazinc’s website to learn more.

Apple Plans iPhone Software Update to Combat China Ban

By | December 14, 2018

After news emerged earlier this week that the sale and import of older iPhone models had been banned in China following an injunction from microchip maker Qualcomm, Apple is now planning a software update to combat the ban. In a statement to Reuters, the Californian company revealed that “early next week we will deliver a software update for iPhone users in China addressing the minor functionality of the two patents at issue in the case.”

The ongoing legal dispute between Qualcomm and Apple comes from a lawsuit filed in late 2017, which accuses Apple of infringing on patents regarding to resizing photographs and managing apps on a touch screen. Apple has claimed that iOS 12 does not infringe on the patents, meaning that it should be able to issue an update forcing all users affected by the ban to update to iOS 12 to avoid the conflict. Even if this update reverses the ban, it is unlikely to stop the ongoing legal issues between Apple and Qualcomm.

In other tech news, Apple is opening a $1 billion USD campus in Austin, Texas.

Nike Is Releasing a Y2K-Inspired Air Max Pack

By | December 13, 2018

The Y2K scare remains a baffling moment in history during which national media spelled out a scenario of total social collapse. With the beginning of an ever-digitalizing world, the Y2K bug within the coding of varying computerized systems was projected to wreak havoc on the advent of the year 2000. While the moment remains a rather laughable part of history, Nike has gone on to infuse the historical event into a unique two-pair Air Max pack that includes an Air Max 270 and Air Max 95.

The uniquely-themed pack comes geared with black uppers on both shoes, utilizing iridescent fabric that mimics the color buzz of Y2K-era television sets. The pack also utilizes a unique mixture of tonal blues and grays that mimic the steel and aluminum cases of 2000s-era tech.

Both shoes will retail for $160 USD and will hit Nike’s web store and select retailers on January 1st, 2019.

For more sneakers dropping early next year, check out the newly-announced Nike Air Max 98 “Pink/Pumice.”
